How Big Can a Maine Coon Cat Get?
As we previously mentioned, the Maine Coon is one of the oldest domestic cat breeds, often referred to as “Gentle Giants.” They grow very fast, but they also mature slowly. Male Maine Coon kittens can double in size (not weight) between one and eight months of age. However, they keep growing until they reach four to five years of age.
It is typical for some Maine Coons to have a stomach pouch that protrudes from their body, which is not an indicator of obesity. This characteristic can also be present in female cats. Males usually weigh between 15 and 25 pounds, depending on the size of their skeleton, while females weigh on average 12–17 pounds. Females with larger skeletons can weigh between 18 and 21 pounds. Although the size of a Maine Coon kitten can’t be guaranteed, the size of the parents can be a good predictor of the adult size of their offspring.
The best way to introduce a Maine Coon Kitten to other pets?
It’s crucial to make sure your Maine Coon kitten settles in nicely. Just like with an adult human, stress may be detrimental to a kitten. Thus, act with prudence. Keep your Maine Coon kitten in a different room with a scratching post, fresh water, food, toys, a litter box, and/or a cat tree to avoid the smell of other animals.
To pique their mutual curiosity, let your Maine Coon kitten smell the other animals beneath the door. Make sure your kitten has enough time to become used to its new surroundings. Since the first few days might be scary for a new Maine Coon kitten, it is normally advised to keep them in your bedroom, even letting them sleep there.
After speaking with a veterinarian, you can let the animals sniff and interact with one another for brief amounts of time on the third day. Never let your Maine Coon kitten be alone with other pets until you are sure they are settling in well.
What Meals Are Suitable for My New Maine Coon Kitten?
Maine Coon kittens need more fat to develop, therefore, owners should remember that. This is why they need “free-feed” dry chow all day. There are several food alternatives for adult Maine Coons, and it’s crucial to feed them according to their needs.
Maine Coon kittens need high-fat dry food throughout the day to grow properly, even if canned food has less fat and more protein. However, the COVID-19 outbreak has caused production and distribution challenges at certain retailers, making quality cat food hard to buy.
Earthborn, holistic, and fancy feast canned cat food can supplement your Maine Coon kitten’s diet if you can’t locate good dry food. Additionally, you should wait at least a few weeks before changing your cat’s food.
You can’t overfeed a developing Maine Coon kitten or cat. Give them lots of food and limit it after they finish growing to prevent obesity.
